I really enjoy reading all the old newspaper articles and reviews. However I'm not so keen on the review which mentions that the reviewer would like to see Doomwatch back for a fourth season but without John Ridge. For me he was ' Doomwatch' and the episodes without him lacked a vital ingredient!

I should really pay more attention to this forum!
I agree, Ian. His presence is really missed in the third series. The little dashes of humour that lifted the rather grim aspects of some episodes were much needed, and never went over the top.
I got the impression that the third series tried, if you like, to give him a character journey which at times made him seem like a laughing stock to the other, more sensible characters. I'm thinking of Deadly Dangerous Tomorrow, and then his depression in Cause of Death makes him throw it all away, what ever he believed in. An understandable reaction to the confusion he was feeling.
Real life scientists didn't think much of him either. Probably jealous...
