I am delighted to see a new Doomwatch site on the web. I watched Doomwatch when it was originally screened and it is one of my all time favourite shows. Like many other people I was very saddened to learn of the death of Simon Oates the other week. He was my favourite character in Doomwatch and I was saddened that his career after the show did not seem as high profile on television as I felt that it should have been. Simon was a great actor and Dr. John Ridge was one of the best characters on 70s TV. I am disappointed that Doomwatch has yet to make it on DVD and I hope that this website might prompt the BBC to release the surviving episodes. I hope that perhaps one day some of the missing shows - especially Survival COde and Fire and Brimstone might be found.......

Yes, DOOMWATCH has been neglected for too long, it was groundbreaking and a great ratings success in the early 1970s, a splendid series with a great cast. I met Simon a few times, he was a very lovely man. Survival code was a great episode, what a shock at the end when Toby was killed. At the time, heroes usually survived, What words at the end. Quist: Non nuclear. Ridge : yes, who,ll tell Toby Air Commodore Parks : When will you people learn not to interfere Cue music . And then the following week in the radio times letters page, a flood of correspondence, one i can remember particularly. You rotten lot, I loved DOOMWATCH but now you,ve killed off Toby, I will never watch the series again. DOOMWATCH to you too. This letter was sent by a Mrs V Rainbird.
